Ross Township -- On Friday, November 8th, Holy Cross Academy hosted approximately 50 local veterans and their families at Mass followed by a parade to celebrate Veterans Day. Sixth grade students and members of the Holy Cross Helping Hands Club created homemade banners and signs and decorated the church pews to honor those who have served. Following Mass, each veteran who attended was recognized individually, students read poems, kindergarten and first grade sang "God Bless America" and veterans received an appreciation gift bag that was handed to them by second grade students. The Mass was followed by a parade, led by a color guard of Holy Cross students, a WWII military jeep, the veterans in attendance, and finally an Allegheny County SWAT vehicle. After cheering for the veterans and showing their appreciation, students were able to go in the SWAT vehicle and speak with officers and attendees.
